Cast announcement for "The Dark Knight Rises"

January 20, 2011 - Nick Recchia & Tom Worthington
I want to start off by saying that I know that "The Dark Knight Rises" is not a video game. But Game Over! is changing it's format a bit. We will still be blogging about video games but we will now be covering "all things geek". This means that, along with video games, we will be talking about movies, music, tech, comics and anything else that a geek would love. On that note, back to the subject at hand.

"The Dark Knight Rises", set to release on July, 20, 2012, has gotten some new cast members. Anne Hathaway will be filling the shoes of Michelle Pfeiffer as she is set to play the role of Catwoman. She is joined by Tom Hardy who will be playing Bane.

It's an interesting next step in the franchise. Fans have been speculating since "The Dark Knight" who will be the next Batman villain. Personally, I was hoping to see Dr. Hugo Strange take a shot at Batman and I'm sure I wasn't the only one.

But the casting of Bane brings up many questions, especially since Nolan has a "new interpretation of one of Batman's most formidable enemies". How will Bane be handled as a villain? Is he going to be an over-the-top character that is nothing like the other realistic foes that we have seen so far? Or will this "new interpretation" change Bane all together into more of a real life chracter? I feel the best thing about the new Batman franchise is that it is realistic and dark. It feels as if this could all be possible. So I would hate to see it ruined by a CG Bane. It just doesn't fit.

Catwoman is definitely a more realistic character and heck Anne Hathaway in skin tight black leather doesn't hurt either. Hathaway has been on Nolan's short list of actresses that were vying for the role or Catwoman. The list included Jessica Biel and Keira Knightley. I think any of the three would have worked out but I've seen Biel and Knightley in an action movie before and it will be a nice change to see Hathaway play a character like Catwoman/Selina Kyle. The question now is, how will the character be portayed, good or bad? Catwoman is complicated character, known for changing sides. And will she be the new love interest for Batman/Bruce Wayne? Questions I guess we will have to keep waiting for.
