What if we just gave in and called it the Music Hall of Fame? The Hall was never really "rock" to begin with, after all. It's very first class of inductees, in 1986, included Ray Charles, Sam Cooke and James Brown — all of whom were soul legends who occasionally threw out a rock chord. And in the 25 years since, the I.M. Pei-designed museum has embraced every musical genre — with the notable exception of country. But in broadening its horizons the rock hall has opened itself up to endless criticism. Some people don't like the recent inclusion of rap pioneers. Some don't like the seeming bias against popular music that didn't strike a chord with music critics. (Rush and Kiss have been noticeably absent the from nomination lists since they became eligible.) Others (read: Me) hate the fact that disco is even acknowledged, let alone disco artists inducted. (ABBA is in a freaking Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?!) This morning, the Hall announced the 2012 nominations. I'll go through them each and give my opinion on their Hall worthiness. A vote for "worthy" doesn't necessarily mean they should go in this year, however:

This should have been written by the "professor Jim Price". or at least a qualified music critic. homerbeepSep-30-11 7:13 AM Your headline should read "shoo-ins," not "shoe-ins." Also, Laura's last name is NYRO, not Nyo. Proofread before posting, already! LETSGETROCKEDSep-28-11 5:51 PM @DavidSpinosa: First... I totally agree with you about RUSH. They absolutely have been hosed by the RH all these years. I'm a big Rush fan... have several of their albums/CDs, from 'Moving Picutures' to 'Roll The Bones'. As for quoting Wiki.... umm, no. Can't help it that the info is there. As a fan of Def Leppard, I knew all that. Like Rush, Def Leppard invented a musical sound, and inspired many more generations. DL was the first to introduce "pop metal". DL have-- since the 80s -- inspired the likes of Bon Jovi and Lady Gaga (don't believe? check out her website and some of her interviews where she mentions DL's sound). Today's country music sound is also hugely influenced by Def Leppard's sound -- their melodies and harmonies, big hooks and big choruses. So at least we agree on one thing... Rush, along with Def Leppard, BOTH belong on the Rock Hall. DavidSpinosaSep-28-11 4:29 PM As I was saying, I didnt even need to go to Wiki to find these facts like you did. I just know them because I am a fan. So, in short. Don't call anyone a moron buddy. At least until you learn to spell DEFINITIVE. Moron. DavidSpinosaSep-28-11 4:28 PM @Letsgetrocked: So your whole basis for calling Keith a moron is a bunch of factoids that you quoted from Wiki? Wow..you REALLY know your music. Hmm...let's talk about a band that's been screwed since forever. Rush? Ever heard of them? I know..they have only sold 40 million records worldwide so they couldnt possibly be as good as..Def Leppard??!? Ha DL isn't even on the same level as Dream Theater let alone Rush. Please. Rush has had 24 gold records and 14 platinum records and they've been together since 1974! Isn't that impressive? Rush also has more consecutive gold or platinum studio albums than any other band except the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Wow! Pretty cool right? Who would of thunk it? I mean..Rush..these guys are respected and idolized by some of the best musicians of our time but I guess that doesn't count here. I mean, why would you want to have respected musicians in the HOF? And they are still together, making new music. I didnt even ne TheprisonerSep-28-11 9:48 AM The only measurment for inclusion should be did they push the envelope, bringing something new to rock music. Imitating already exisiting sounds just because they sold millions should not be the criteria some are using. If I use those that pushed rock you should include the early rappers, but I would leave out Joan Jet (power chord redux, Donovan (British Dylan), Heart (Led Zep with girls) Guns & Roses did revitalize and bring hard rock back to the masses but it had already been done. Everyone is bias towards the generation of music they grew up with. GNR is perhaps THE rock band of the 1980s." What the*****are you talking about? Ever hear of DEF LEPPARD? Talk about a band that's been screwed by the Rock Hall for 8 years now. Def Leppard was the DEFINATIVE hard rock band of the 80s. They sold more records, albums, CDs and concert tickets than ANY OTHER ARTIST except for Michael Jackson that decade. To this day, Def Leppard is one of only 5 rock bands with two original studio albums selling over 10 million copies in the U.S. The other 4? - The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd and Van Halen. Oh, yeah. Chew on that. And unlike GNR and dozens of other clowns in the Rock Hall... Def Leppard IS STILL TOGETHER, STILL TOURING AND STILL PRODUCING NEW, ORIGINAL MUSIC.
